30 people feared dead after avalange covers Italian hotel
*update 11:42 – rescuers recovered one body. There are probably 27 people in the hotel, among them two children.*
30 people are feared dead after an avalange covered the Rigopiano Hotel in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
The avalange was triggered by an earthquake on Wednesday say Italian rescue officials. Local residents alerted emergency service when they noticed the roof of the hotel partly collapsed. It was difficult for rescuers to get to the hotel fast because a snowstorm blocked routes. Italian media says the first rescuers reached the hotel on skis at 03:00 (gmt) on Thursday.
At the time of the accident about 30 people were in the hotel, guests and staff.
